Kira Berkeley

Student-at-Law, 2020 to 2021

Kira Berkeley is now Co-Director and Counsel at Animal and Environmental Legal Advocacy (“AEL Advocacy”), a public interest law practice and not-for-profit organization. Heading up the Animal Law Division of AEL Advocacy, AEL Advocacy is the first organization of its kind in Canada offering free legal services at the intersection of animal and environmental law. Prior to articling with OLLIP, Kira obtained her JD from the University of Ottawa.

Julie Daet

Student-at-Law, 2018-2019

Julie Daet is presently an associate lawyer at OLLIP. A litigation enthusiast (with a particular passion for appellate advocacy), she serves as co-counsel on applications for judicial review, applications/actions, and appeals before the Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal. She also handles civil litigation and contract matters before the Ontario courts. Julie received her JD from the University of New Brunswick.

Ray Luckiram

Student-at-Law, 2018

Ray Luckiram currently works in Toronto as an Associate with Stikeman Elliott, in corporate matters and securities. Ray completed his LL.B at the University of Sussex in the United Kingdom.  He then continued on to study a Masters of Law at Leiden University in the Netherlands, where he specialized in International Civil and Commercial Law.

Sepal Bonni

Student-at-Law, 2012-2013

Sepal Bonni is now Partner with Carters Professional Corporation, a boutique charity and trademark firm in Ottawa. Prior to articling with OLLIP, Sepal completed her JD at the University of Ottawa, and is also armed with a M. Sc. In Biological Sciences. Sepal’s present practice encompasses trademark prosecution, copyright, and technology / privacy law.

April Gougeon

Student-at-Law, 2012-2013

April Gougeon worked with the Federal Government of Canada in the Office of the Privacy Commissioner as a Senior Strategic Policy and Research Analyst. April completed her Bachelor’s Degree at Carleton University before pursuing her JD at Queen’s University.

Faizel Bandali Jaffer

Faizel Bandali Jaffer owns and operates FBJ Legal, a small firm in Markham, Ontario that focuses on  IP, real estate and corporate law. Faizel has an MBA from the Schulich School of Business, which he earned prior to completing his LL.B at the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom.

Ahmad Abou-Nassif

Ahmad Abou-Nassif works a legal counsel with the Government of Canada at the Department of Justice, where he serves at the Centre for Business and Technology Law (CBTL).

Celine Kowbel

Student-at-Law, 2006 to 2007

Celine is now living in New York City, where she works as a Sales and Legal Advisor at TUP Solutions, an IT services company specializing in education and e-commerce. Celine studied at the University of Ottawa where she earned her LL.B. In addition, Celine is a registered Canadian trademark agent.

John Phillip Koopmann

Student-at-Law, 2004 to 2005

John Philip Koopmann now works with the Federal Government of Canada as Advisor, Privacy and Data Protection Policy Directorate at Industry Canada. John provides guidance for the establishment of a Data Commissioner. Before starting his career as a civil servant, John earned his LL. M at the University of Ottawa.
